Crestron HVAC control using BACnet integration to enhance the comfort of arena visitors.
The Little Caesars Arena is a brand new, state-of-the-art facility located in the Detroit District. Serving as the hub for this newly revitalized area of the city, the arena is the home of the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League and the Detroit Pistons of the National Basketball Association. It also hosts many big name performers and other large events.
The team at AVPA was initially brought on to this project as Crestron programming consultants by Venuetize, a company that designs mobile apps that enhance the visitor experience. However, after some discussion, Venuetize decided to hire AVPA to complete the Crestron programming that would control the arena’s HVAC system.
Every suite in the arena is equipped with an iPad that the guests can use to manage and change the temperature of that suite (as well as handle other requests like guest assistance or food orders) via the app designed by Venuetize.
Using the communications protocol BACnet, our team wrote the code that controls the set points of the arena’s HVAC system and responds with the system’s current set point and temperature.
We worked with another Crestron programming team that programmed the middleware between our code and the iPad app. The middleware handles the users’ requests from the iPad in their suite and also takes the code programmed by the AVPA team and sends it back to the iPad app.
Using our extensive Crestron programming and BACnet integration experience, AVPA was able to help provide seamless communication between the user interface, the middleware, and the arena’s HVAC system.
