AVPA is excited to announce that our own Matt Grisafe has released a new book. It’s titled Business Ain’t Rocket Science, and it offers insights and stories from Matt’s 20-year career as a small business owner. It was written primarily for other small business owners—especially those who are just getting started. As the title suggests, the insight he offers isn’t complicated or confusing. It’s straightforward and easy to implement.
This isn’t Matt’s first book. Several years ago, he wrote a book titled Our Code that details the history of AVPA and offers a look into our company’s approach to business. This new book is a lot more personal. If you know Matt at all, this won’t surprise you. He is someone who loves people and places a high priority on forming deep bonds—both in his personal life and in business. In this book, Matt talks a lot about how he approaches business relationships—with clients, partners, and team members. He offers advice on topics like communication, networking, teambuilding, and more.
In each chapter, you’ll find stories and real-life examples of how Matt implements the principles he is presenting. This isn’t a theoretical or philosophical book, but rather one that is very practical and relatable—like Matt himself. One of the more interesting chapters is the one where he discusses the ways in which running a business and managing people is like parenting. The fascinating parallels that he offers will likely give business owners an entirely new perspective on employee management. You also might be surprised by the chapter where Matt discusses his opinion on discussing religion and politics at work.
Matt commented recently, “This is a book I’ve been wanting to write for a while now, and I felt like the company’s 20-year anniversary was a great time to do it. As the owner of a small business that has seen a good amount of success, I wanted to offer some insights into what I feel has contributed to that success. It was fun to revisit some of the stories from the past and think about the people who have helped make AVPA what it is today. It’s my hope that other small business owners will read this book and learn from my experiences. I know my way isn’t the only way to run a business, but it has worked well for me. At the very least, I hope it will provide a different perspective than one you might get from other business books.”
