AVPA recently completed work on a unique residential project in Ramona, California. The project, named “Casa Aguila” for the Golden Eagles that regularly fly over the residence, is being called “the most advanced home built in San Diego County.” It will be the first home in San Diego County to be certified as a Passive House, which means it has been designed to achieve maximum levels of energy efficiency, while still maintaining a certain level of comfort. The homeowners are striving to be completely off the grid by utilizing a combination of battery, solar, and wind power in their home.
AVPA was brought in for our experience as one of San Diego’s most experienced certified Crestron programmers, and we utilized Crestron systems to control the home’s entire audiovisual (AV) system. AV systems tend to utilize a large amount of energy and produce a lot of heat, and since energy efficiency was such a high priority in this project, we utilized the latest in Crestron technology, which is more energy efficient than most systems on the market.
We also programmed the control system for the home’s shades and lighting using Crestron. The system allows the homeowner to remotely control all of the 100% high-efficiency LED lighting (indoors and out) and open and close the shades, even if they are away from the home.
In addition, the Crestron home automation system programmed by AVPA monitors all plug loads and electricity generation and usage, so the homeowners know exactly how much energy they are using (or not using, in this case). The system also lets the homeowners control the temperature and AV equipment in each individual room in order to better regulate their usage.
We’re pleased to be involved with this project and thankful that our team was brought in to complete the Crestron programming portion of this beautiful home. It was a unique and interesting project that presented our team with opportunities to utilize some of the latest Crestron products to achieve maximum energy efficiency. We anticipate doing more projects like this one, as we are seeing more and more homeowners interested in reducing their carbon footprint.
